Heal and Regenerate painful joints with Prolotherapy

Regenerative Injection Therapy

Heal and Regenerate painful joints with Prolotherapy

Rather from inadequately healed injuries or arthritis, join pain interferes with our mood, ability to work, and to do what we enjoy. Unfortunately, most of us cope with the pain by medicating and conforming our lifestyle to it. The solution to joint pain is Regenerative Medicine.

Regenerative Medicine Heals

Regenerative Medicine is an innovative field of health care comprising of therapies that naturally stimulate the body to self-heal.  Regenerative Medicine performed to stimulate repair of weakened, injured, or painful joints is known as Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT); also known as Prolotherapy.  During Prolotherapy, a series of injections is administered into problem areas to initiate the reparative healing response.

What is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is a non-surgical, in-office procedure that attracts special healing cells to repair damaged, painful and weak ligaments, tendons and cartilage. Treatments are applied directly to the site of injury, along with the surrounding structures. Agents used in Prolotherapy may include dextrose and procaine alone or in combination with bio-cellular agents such as Platelet-rich Plasma and stem cells.

Platelet-Rich Plasma and Prolotherapy

Persons with more severe arthritis or higher-grade injuries such as tears may be candidates for Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP). PRP has gained popularity, especially amongst athletes with sports injuries. Platelets possess over a dozen types of growth factors, one which attracts stem cells. The use of PRP in Prolotherapy accelerates the tendon healing process and improves collagen synthesis. When PRP is used, your blood will be drawn and processed in a special centrifuge just prior to treatment. This allows us to acquire a highly concentrated sample of your own growth factor containing platelets which are then injected into the injury. Research has found successful use of PRP in the treatment of tennis elbow, rotator cuff injuries of the shoulder, ligament sprains, osteoarthritis of the knee, tendon deterioration, meniscal tears, injuries to the medical collateral ligament, plantar fasciitis, and other conditions.

Regenerative Medicine at Inland Naturopathic

For over fifteen years Dr. Ayo Bankole has helped individuals regain function and independence from painful joints using Prolotherapy. He first studied and trained in the technique back in 2004. Dr. Bankole is trained in the classic Hackett-Hemwall Prolotherapy technique through the American Osteopathic Association of Prolotherapy Regenerative Medicine and the Integrative Regenerative Medicine Academy.

How Prolotherapy Works

Research spanning decades has found that the body responds to Prolotherapy just as with any injury; that is by stimulation of the wound healing cascade. This is your healing biology in action. The healing cascade begins with release of messenger cells, signals and growth factors characteristic of the inflammatory response. Collectively, these signals attract special cells called fibroblasts to the treated area. Upon arrival, fibroblasts then secrete collagen and matrix. This new collagen becomes incorporated into the injured ligaments and tendons to repair and strengthen them overtime. Ultimately, the structural integrity of the joint is restored, and pain firing nerves are quieted.

How Prolotherapy differs from Conventional Therapies?

Conventional therapies lack the regenerative quality of Prolotherapy and therefore don’t address the underlying instability and deterioration. Braces and support, pain medications, surgery, extended periods of immobility, and other similar approaches do nothing to stimulate repair of the affected tissue. By blocking the release of healing cells disparately needed for repair, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and corticosteroid injections accelerate ligament deterioration leading to more pain over time.

Conditions Regenerative Injection Therapy Treats

Regenerative Injection Therapy treats any form of musculoskeletal pain including osteoarthritis, sprains and strains, minor tears, repetitive use injuries, and those sustained by athletes.   Treatments can be used for new injuries or older ones that never properly healed.

  • Ligament and tendon tears
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Groin pain
  • Joint laxity and hypermobility
  • Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow
  • Pain and arthritis of the neck
  • Knee pain
  • Sciatica
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Pain at ischial tuberosity

Are you a Candidate for Prolotherapy?

If you are suffering from musculoskeletal pain, experiencing limitations in your ability to function and perform in a way that you need to or find you no longer participate in the activities that you love, it is time to experience the regenerative capabilities of Prolotherapy.
